Life Reflections
"To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die,"
ECCLESIASTES 3:1-2
Mary Louise Brayboy Barr was born on May 21, 1934, in the Camerontown Community of Florence County, SC to Mr.
Langston Grant Brayboy, St., and Mrs. Lillie Gaskins Brayboy.
She was educated in the public schools of Florence County School District Three. While growing up, she was affectionately called "Skinny". She loved cleaning, cooking, and having fun with friends. Mary accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and joined Bethel AME Church in the Camerontown Community.
After graduation, she was united in marriage to the late Mr. James Roosevelt Barr, thus becoming Mrs. Mary Louise Brayboy Barr.
This union was blessed with one daughter and two sons. The couple moved to Newark, NJ, desiring to make a better living for their family. Mrs. Mary worked at Coastal Fabric Company and retired from DMI Personal Care in Newark, NJ. Even though Mary spent the majority of her life in New Jersey, she always came back to South Carolina often to visit her family. Family was very important to Mary.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mary Louise Brayboy Barr was preceded in death by three sisters: Melverlena B. Cameron, Rohester B. Cockfield, and Lillie B. Davis; and two brothers:
Langston G. Brayboy, Jr., and Leroy Cooper.
On Saturday, December 2, 2023 God in his infinite wisdom called Mrs. Mary Louise Brayboy Barr to eternal rest at Palmers Nursing Home in Florence, SC.
Those left to cherish her memories are three loving and caring children: a devoted daughter, Brenda Barr of Scranton, SC, two sons James Edward Barr of Atlanta, GA, and Eric Wallace (Tara) Barr of Bronx, NY. Four grandchildren: Brian, Ronnetta, Terrell, Eric Lloyd, and Wallace, and one great grandchild, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Beatrice Gibbs of Englewood, NJ, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and special friends.
The repass will be held at the church following the service St. Peter Love Fellowship, 940 Morris Street, Lake City, SC
