Life Reflection
Mr. James Ledell McKenzie was born on September 5, 1965 to the late James Daniel “JD” McKenzie and the late Rose Emma McCray-McKenzie. James received his formal education from Lake City High School in 1984. He was a dedicated member to the Army National Guard attached to the Battery A 1/178 Field Artillery. He also served faithfully as an active duty member during which he honored his country during the Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was Honorably discharged with a combined service of 19 years and 4 months. James was employed by the City of Lake City and Florence County Environmental Control, dutifully for over 20 years before retiring in 2006. In his leisure time he enjoyed repairing things around the house and in the church, and watching his favorite football team, the Pittsburg Steelers. James also enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his best friend CoCo, the family pet. James loved the Lord. He was proceeded in death by his loving father James Daniel “JD” McKenzie; mother Rose Emma McCray-McKenzie; father-in-law, Franklin Britton, mother-in-law, Silver Lee Britton, beloved sisters, Emmaline McKenzie-Anderson and Gloria Ann McFadden; brother James Russell McKenzie; sister-in-law, Theresa Ann Burgess, and nephew Spencer “Gator” McKenzie. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 33 years Mary B. McKenzie; his four children, Kenesha (Ron) Johnson, Latito (Sharolyn) Britton, Ja’Shua (Skie) McKenzie, and Shemaiah (Greg) McKenzie; his five grandchildren, Davonte Britton, Britton Johnson, Shaniya Britton, Lashada Britton and Olivia Johnson; one aunt, Betty Shields. Three brothers, Thomas (Michae) McKenzie, Heyward (Betty) McKenzie, and Leroy Durant. Two sisters, Helen McKenzie-Andrews and Jimmie Lee Jackson. Brother-in-law Frank (Lillie Mae), Sister-in-laws Brenda, Dorothy (John) Jacoby, Cynthia Zanders, Margaret (Edward), Catherine (Clayce) Singletary. A host of loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
