Ida Mae “Lil Mama" Cooper Burgess, daughter of the late Levern & Jannie Margaret McCrea Cooper was born January 9, 1953 in Lake City, South Carolina.
She received her formal education in the public schools of Florence County and graduated from Carver High School in 1972.
At an carly age, she joined St. Matthews Holiness Church. She later became a member of St. Paul AME Church.
She worked as a home care aide, caring for children and adults for many years.
She was joined in holy matrimony to Ernest Burgess and this union was blessed with one child.
"Lil Mama", as she was affectionately called, passed unto eternal rest on April 5, 2024 at her home. She was preceded in death by three sisters:Martha, Michelle and Juanita.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory, a husband, Ernest Burgess of Lake City, SC; one daughter, Ernestine "Moody" Burgess of Lake City, SC; three sisters: Carolyn Cooper of Homestead, FL, Hazel (Calvin) Baldwin of Miami, FL. and Shirley (Herbert) Burgess of Lake City, SC; two brothers: Roger Cooper of Homestead, Fl. and Keith Cooper of Lake City, SC; six sisters-in-law: Emma Lee, Eva Mac, Mary Ann, Retha, Ruby and Christine; two brother-in-laws: Sam and Charles; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; special caregivers, Mr: James Harrison and the Palmer family; and special friends she took as family: Gertrude Mealing, Betty Jean Burgess, and Donald Lee.
