Life Reflections
Deaconess Bertha Mae Cooper Wilson was born on April 9, 1949 in Williamsburg County, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Buster and Ella Mae Eaddy. She was reared by her grandparents, Ruie and Abbey Cooper.
Bertha received her education in the public schools of Florence County in South Carolina. She was a 1967 graduate of Carver High School in Lake City. She continued her education at Coker College in Hartsville, SC.
Bertha was a devoted employee for Florence County School District Three for numerous years. She later became a proud and loyal daycare owner. This calling brought her much fulfillment as she molded and shaped the lives of many youths.
Bertha was joined in holy matrimony to John Davis Wilson in 1970. They were blessed with one daughter, La’ThonauSingletary. Immediately after marriage, she joined Hickory Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
Deaconess Wilson worked faithfully alongside her husband at Hickory Hill. While there, she served in numerous ministries to include: Deaconess, Secretary of Morris College Lecture Department of the Baptist Union, Church Secretary of the Sunday School Department, Secretary of the Missionary Department, and Gospel Choir President.
In addition to her parents, Bertha was preceded in death by threebrothers, Ulysses Eaddy, Theodore Eaddy and Freddie Hannah; godchildren; Raymond Washington, Jr., and Sampson Hanna.
Deaconess Bertha Mae Wilson is survived by her loving husband, Deacon John Wilson of 54 years; daughter, LaThonauSingletary; two adoring grandchildren,
Heather (Brandon) Antwine of Olanta, SC, and Daniel McFadden of Kingstree, SC; siblings, Christine Gamble of Florence, SC, Thara Hickson, David (Janice) Eaddy, Jerome (Rochella) Singletary, Audrey Gamble, Patricia McGill, Donald Dickson, and Faye (James) Polite all of Lake City, SC and Karon Johnson of Columbia, SC; godchildren, Fernander Barrand Jackie Hanna; brother-in law, Joe Wilson, sisters-in-law, Margaret Robinson, Sarah Parks, and Gail Brown; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and church family, all of whom will miss her dearly.
