Rosa Mae Cooper

Mrs. Rosa Mae Cooper was called to meet with our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 27,2022.

Mrs. Rosa Mae Cooper was born on June 6, 1936 in Florence County. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Maxie Hickson and Kaziah McKenzie Hickson.

Mrs. Rosa was educated in the Florence County school system and was a graduated of Carver High School Class of 1954.

In 1956 she was joined in holy matrimony to the late William Cooper, to this union 9 children were born.
Mrs. Rosa Mae was a homemaker, hair dresser, excellent cook, and gardener. She loved to cook and bake cakes and pies for her children, grandchildren, and others. She loved to grow flowers. Her front yard was always full of all types of beautiful flowers and roses. Also, her “green thumb”extended to growing all kinds of vegetables in her backyard garden. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens! They were her pride and joy - God’s gifts to her!

Mother Cooper , as she was affectionately known at Greater St. Paul, was a lifelong member and mother of the church. She was a woman of God! She loved her church and her church family. God blessed her with a passion to sing and praise Him. She loved to sing His praises! She sang on the gospel and senior choirs at Greater St. Paul, as well as serving on the missionary committiee. She was also the lead singer for the 5 Gospel Keys for many years until their retiring.

She was preceded in death by her husband William Cooper Sr., her son Michael Gene Cooper, her brother Maxcel Hickson and her sister Letha Mae Staggers.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children, two daughters, Minister Desby Cooper of the home and Sheria (Antonia) Fleming of Florence, S.C. Six sons, William Cooper Jr. of Stone Mountain, GA, Gregory Cooper of Decatur, GA, Pastor Eric (Victoria) Cooper of Florence, SC, Godfrey Cooper, Maxie Cooper, Martin (Tykisha) Cooper Sr., all of Lake City, S.C. , and Maxie Cooper, Jr (a grandson she raised as her own) of Columbia, S.C. Eighteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Special cousins Catherine Peterson and Helen Graham. Special neighbor and cousin Eva Ruth Rogers. And host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives.
