Myrtle Timmons

Deaconess Myrtle Bell Hammond-Timmons was born June 28, 1940 to the late Mary McNeil and Robert Hammond in Johnsonville, SC and she departed this life on Sunday, December 25, 2022 peacefully at her home.

Deaconess Timmons received her formal education in the Florence County Public School and later attended Battery Park High School where she was an avid basketball player, and later graduated the Class of 1962. She was employed with the Form Avondale Manufacturing for 20 plus years, and later retired from R & B Enterprise in Lake City, SC. After retirement, she began working as a nursing sitter to the elderly and enjoyed spending time with her family.

At an early age, Deaconess Timmons accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined St. Mark A.M.E Church in Johnsonville, SC. She later attended Aimwell Baptist Church of Pamplico, SC after being united in holy matrimony to the Late Deacon Henry Joe Timmons on June 27, 1969. Two children were born of this marriage and preceded them both in death. Deaconess Timmons was very active and passionate about serving the Lord. She belonged to several axillaries-- President of the Pastor’s Aid Board, Missionary Board Member, Usher Board Member, Former Sunday School Teacher, Kitchen Committee Member and a Member of the Eastern Star Chapter #354, which she joined in 1976 and remained a dedicated and active member for 42 years.

Deaconess Timmons was a loving, kind and soft-spoken person. Her smile and actions truly demonstrated that she was loving person who loved her family, which she always showed.

Besides her late husband and children, Myrtle Bell was preceded in death by two brothers: Mr. Robert L. Hammond and Mr. Gary Hammond and an adopted brother Mr. Norman Davis; two sisters: Mrs. Janie Bell Skinner and Mrs. Charlie Hammond Cockfield. She leaves to cherish her loving memories; two sisters: Ms. Connie Hammond and Mrs. Martha (Robert) Hugee, both of Florence, SC; four cousins reared as siblings; Ms. Ruth McNeil (Bobby) Graham of Johnsonville, SC, Mr. Herbert (Geraldine) McNeil, Mr. Henry McNeil, and Ms. Julie Mae McNeil- Davis all of Pamplico, SC. One sister in law: Ms. Pearlease Timmons of Scranton, SC; a special niece: Ms. Sharon “Molly” Timmons-Generette of Florence, SC; five godchildren: Ms. Joretta Henneghan, Mr. CJ Tinmons, Ms. Makayla Gabriel, Mr. Julian McElveen and Mr. Nicholas Eaddy; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
