Mrs. Lula Mae Epps Spates daughter of the late Daniel Epps and Lizzie Knowlin Epps, was born in Williamsburg County on January 13, 1934. God is in infinite wisdom summoned home the soul of Mrs. Lula Mae Epps Spates to her heavenly home on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at the McLeod Hospice House of Florence, South Carolina. Lula attended Tomlinson High School of Kingstree, South Carolina, The Adult and Community Education Consortium of Florence School District Two, Three, Four and Five, and was awarded the Certificate of Achievement of Nursing Assistant. At an early age, she joined Hickory Grove AME Church of Hebron, South Carolina. Later she joined Mt. Beulah United Methodist Church of Lake City, South Carolina. She later became a member of True Word of Faith Worship Center of Cades, South Carolina, where she stayed a faithful member until her death. Lula worked many years for Warsaw Manufacturer, Baxter Laboratory and Ronald E. McNair Nursing Home. Lula was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Winnie Spates Sr. To this union five children were born. One preceded her in death, Winnie Spates Jr., her parents also three sisters: Eva Jane Burt, Ruby McNeil and Kiziah Epps Spates, those left to cherish her loving memories one daughter: Judy Spates McFadden of the home; three sons: Danny Spates and Michael Spates both of the home, and Tommy (Laura) Spates of Lake City, SC; three sisters: Francis Chavis of Apex, NC, Bessie Lee Wallace of Lake City, SC, and Annie Funchess of Jersey City, NJ; three brothers: Daniel (Olivia) Epps Jr. of Fuguary-Varina, NC, Willie David (Glenda) Epps of Holly Springs, NC, and Curtis (Mary) Epps of NC; one sister-in-law: Mary Frances Spates of Cades, SC; grandchildren: Melissa Renee McFadden of the home, Amanda Nach’e Spates of Conway, SC, Bridget Barron, Lakaisha Barron, all of Lake City, SC, Shaneka Adams of Augusta, GA, Mark (Cambia, fiancée) Owens of Spartanburg, SC, Christopher McClain of Newark, Delaware, Cameron Spates, Damion Spates, Nicholas McClain, all of Lake City, SC, Donte Spates of Kingstree, SC, Malcolm McClain of Charlotte, NC and Alphonso Waterman of Darlington, SC; thirteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and dear friends.
