Mrs. Dorothy Mae Bostick

Mrs. Dorothy Mae Fulton Chandler Bostick was born on April 30, 1927, in Kingstree, South Carolina of Williamsburg County. She was born to the late Cleveland Fulton and Daisy Burroughs Fulton. After the passing of her mother, Daisy, she was raised by Cleveland and the late Rosa, her stepmother. Dorothy Mae attended the public schools of Williamsburg County, South Carolina.

She was joined in holy matrimony to the late David C. Chandler, a farmer. This marriage produced three daughters. After the death of her husband, Dorothy Mae relocated to Lake City, SC. There she joined Wesley Chapel UMC. Dorothy Mae was a member of the Sunday School Class, a member of the Kitchen Committee, an Usher, a Communion Steward.

Dorothy Mae met and married the late Moses Bostick. To this marriage, Moses brought with him, three daughters and one son. Together Dorothy Mae and Moses had one daughter.

After years of service, Dorothy Mae retired from SC Disability and Special Needs Center of Florence, SC.

Dorothy Mae was a faithful servant of God who touched the lives of many people, both young and old. She truly enjoyed her calling of ministering to others. Because of her caring ways, she received several awards, including a Key to the city of Lake City, SC in April 1997 by the late Mayor Wilford Barr; NAACP Award in 1997, an award for Caring for our Youth and Young Adults by Faith and Hope Intervention in 2007, the Usher’s Hospitality Award and others.

Dorothy Mae loved to travel. Her trips included Jerusalem (The Holy Land), Germany, Spain, France, cruising to the Bahamas with her children and grandchildren, going to Disney World with her family, and a host of cities across the United States.

Dorothy Mae is proceeded in death by her sibling Alberta, Ed, Robert, Flora, James (Bubba), Joseph, Sally, Eleanor, Amos, Francis, and Rhodell.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories, her children: Lorine Chandler, Hessie York, Marie (Charles) Gamble all of Lake City, SC, Juanita (Ross) Farrington of Myrtle Beach, SC, Myrann Hampton of Columbia, SC, Sywnette Roberts of San Antonio, TX, Menyorn Oliver of Manning, SC, and Bernard Quattlebaum of Sumter, SC; her sister: Mrs. Shirley Nesby of Brooklyn, NY; her sisters-in-law: Mrs. Carrie (Bill) Hutchins of Lauder Hill, FL, Mrs. Gerlina Jones of West Park, FL; twenty-four grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her loving caregivers Mrs. Sarah Rose and Mrs. Debbie Cuttingham, special gems who truly cared.
