Mr. Joshua Burgess

Joshua Burgess, affectionately known as “Bubba” completed his earthly assignment on July 29, 2020, at the age of 84. He was born to the late Johnny Burgess and Marie Wheeler Burgess of Lake City, South Carolina (SC). Joshua learned at an early age that his passion was in working to provide a living and he displayed this passion well into his later years. Regardless of what was presented to him, his response would often include: “I got to work.”


He was preceded in death by his loving wife Daisey Burroughs Burgess. Loved ones that have also gone on include his sons: Frazier Simmons, Robert Darby, and Joshua Burgess Jr of Lake City SC. His daughter Sharon Burgess Woodard, Lake City SC. A sister, Liza Jane Gamble, Florida, and a brother Jimmy Lee Burgess, Lake City SC.

Joshua leaves to cherish his memories his sons: Leroy (Lillie) Darby, Ricky Lee (Betty Jean) Burgess, and Johnny Lee Burgess all of Lake City SC.

His daughters: Retha Mae (David)Burgess, Betty (David) McGill, and Barbara (Willie) McLeod all of Lake City, SC.

His brothers: John Burgess and Wearly (Pearlie Mae) Burgess of Lake City SC. Donnie (Anna-Jane) Burgess of Cades SC, Roy Burgess, New York/Paul Burgess, New York and Benjamin (Margaret) Burgess, Virginia.

His sisters Diane Burgess, Mary Ann Burgess, Geneva Burgess, Leola Burgess of Lake City, SC, and Willola Troutman, Florida.

Two granddaughters that were reared in the home: Chatonia (Creg) Smalls, Florence SC, and Dorothy Simmons, Lake City SC.

Joshua had a special friend that he was fond of and visited daily: Sarah Graham, Lake City, SC.

Joshua loved being on the outside and could often be found “tinkering” with yard equipment. He loved the Lord and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
