Alexander Danny Rose is affectionately known as “New York Shorty” was born on August 26, 1947, in Florence County to the late Winslow and Calouise Rose. Danny peacefully received his eternal reward on August 10, 2020.
Danny was educated in the public schools of Florence County and graduated from Carver High School of Lake City, South Carolina. After graduation from High School, he attended South Carolina Area Trade School. At an early age, Danny joined Greater Saint James AME of Lake City, South Carolina.
Danny was employed with Wentworth Manufacturing for many years. He left Wentworth to attend South Carolina Area Trade School. After graduation, Danny became a certified barber and hairstylist. Danny also owned and operated two businesses in Lake City. After moving to Florence, he worked at Thompsons Barber Shop. He later left and opened his own business “New York Shorty’s Unisex Hair Styles”. His son Thomas was employed as a barber with him. Danny relocated to Patterson, New Jersey where he opened his last business and worked until his health declined.
Danny leaves to cherish his memory: a loving wife, Lucinda of New Jersey; three children: Thomas (Avala) Rose of Richmond, Virginia, Coretta M. Rose of Charlette, North Carolina, Tarance (Jody) Rose of Charlette, North Carolina; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: Herman Rose of Greensboro, NC and Pastor Jerry (LaSandran) Rose of Richmond, Virginia; three sisters: Ada Cooper of Lake City, South Carolina, Barbara R. (Willie) Davis of Richmond, Virginia and Sarah L. Rose of Lake City, South Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
