Martha S. Nesmith

Mrs. Martha Sowers Nesmith, daughter of Mary Sowers and the late Luther Sowers, was born May 1, 1963, in Philadelphia, PA. She answered the Master’s Call on May 10, 2020, at Lake City Community Hospital, after a brief illness. She received her education in the public schools of Philadelphia, PA. She worked at Lake City Community Hospital until her health declined. Martha was a very quiet and soft-spoken person with a big heart. She was joined in holy matrimony to Mr. Joe Nesmith and together they were blessed with a blended family.

Martha was preceded in death by her twin sister, Mary Sowers Myers and Betty Sowers Johnson.



She leaves to cherish her memories: her devoted husband, Mr. Joe Nesmith; a loving daughter, Latoya (Chris) Sowers Fleming of Florence, SC; grandson, Brock Fleming whom she cherished; her loving mother, Mary Sowers of Lake City, SC; three sisters: Barbara (Albert) Anderson, Shirley (Early) Simon and Kenin Kennedy of Bishopville, SC; one brother, Levern (Angela) Sowers of Philadelphia, PA; mother-in-law, Minister Francis Nesmith; four step-children: LeVan (Holley) Nesmith of Kingsburg, SC, Loria Ann Nesmith and Shirley Ann Nesmith both of Lake City, SC and Joe Louis (Cherese) Nesmith, Jr. of New Haven, CT; 12 additional step-grands; one brother-in-law, Crowell Nesmith, Jr. of Hemingway, SC; 6 sisters-in-law: Mary Frances (Richard) Taylor of Florence, SC, Mattie Mae (Pete) Garcia and Lillie Nesmith both of Lake City, SC, Barbara Cole of Johnsonville, SC, , Ruby Mae (Curtis James) Mack of Kingsburg, SC and the late Laura Cardoza; 5 loving aunts: Pearl Washington of Lake City, SC, Lillie Brown, Hazalene Graham and Alberta (Ellis) Graham all of Olanta, SC, and Annie Ruth Sowers of Florence, SC; one uncle, Hower Sowers of New York; a special nephew, Shawn Sowers of Lake City, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, special cousins and friends.
