Mrs. Marie Wilson “Sis” Nelson, daughter of the late Mr. James and Rosa Johnson Wilson, was born March 28, 1934 in Williamsburg County.
Marie was a 1951 graduate of Lake City Colored School and in 1955 received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Claflin College, Orangeburg, South Carolina.
Marie was a faithful and dedicated member of St. John United Methodist Church, where she served as the church secretary, Sunday School teacher and many other capacities. Marie was also a member of the Iota Xi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Lake City, South Carolina.
Marie was employed for more than forty years with Florence County School District Three, as a teacher at Camerontown Elementary School and Scranton Elementary School as a teacher and librarian.
On Monday night, December 6, 2021, at her sister’s residence, God plucked a lovely rose from His garden- Marie Wilson “Sis” Nelson, to His Heavenly home.
“Sis” as she was affectionally called, was a kindhearted, loving and gentle person.
In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Willie M. Nelson, three brothers, Abraham Wilson, Gregory Wilson and James Singletary.
Those left to cherish and honor her memory include: five grandchildren: Misty Key, Malady Nelson, Jomo Nelson, Dewayne Nelson and Michael Nelson; three great nieces she reared as her own: Alexan Green, Tahira Fullard, Samira Fullard, and a special young lady she also reared as her own, Crystal Hemingway.
One devoted brother, Mitchell Wilson of Bronx, New York, four loving sisters, Mrs. Rossie Montgomery, Ms. Trudy Wilson, Ms. Barbara Wilson and Mrs. Jacqueline (George) Simmons, all of Lake City, South Carolina. Three sister-in-law’s, Jannie Keels of Georgia, Debra Gordon Wilson of Kannapolis North Carolina, Peggy Jenkins Wilson of Virginia, one daughter- in- law, Lottie Nelson of Lake City, SC and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
