Joseph Bernard “Bernie” Singletary the second child of the late Robert Lee and Carrie Washington Singletary was born in Lake City, South Carolina on June 22, 1950. He passed away on October 9, 2021, at Medical University of South Carolina in Florence, South Carolina.
He completed his education in public school of Florence County, graduated from Carver High School Class of 1967. Afterward he attended Voorhees College for one year. Joseph later entered the United States Air Force (USAF), where he served as an air craft mechanic. Joseph was Honorably Discharged after serving more than thirteen years in the USAF. He retired from South Carolina Government, having worked at various agencies.
Early in life he became a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Lake City, SC. Joseph was always active in the church from a young age, participating in youth activities and scouting for many years. As an adult retuning to Lake City, he resumed his involvement in his church where he became active in several ministries. Joseph served as chairperson of the United Methodist Men, he also served as a member of the Trustees, Church Council, Senior and Male Choirs. Bernie really enjoyed his time singing on the choir, bur especially the Male Chorus.
Bernie also enjoyed watching football and baseball. He like his father could spend hours enjoying these sports events. He also like to discuss and debate “Monday Morning Quarterbacking” certain plays. But one thing Bernie became passion about is helping his neighbors. Especially, Mr. Cleveland Cooper who transition several months earlier. It gave him great pleasure to offer his service to assist Mr. Cooper in various ways.
He was preceded by his parents, Robert Lee and Carrie Washington Singletary, older sister, Orgie S. Gartrell and his late wife Thomasina Singletary.
He leaves to cherish his memories: three daughters, Andrea Nicole Singletary, LaToya Monique Singletary, and Crystal Elizabeth Singletary, all of Myrtle Beach, SC, two sisters, Carol C. Singletary of Columbia, SC, and Beverly G. (Robert) Evans of Manhattan, Kansas, two grandchildren, Leo Rain Carver of San Diego, California and Zion Foster of Myrtle Beach, SC, Special Nephew, Robert (Etta) Singletary, of Lake City, SC, and Special Niece Sharon S. (Gerald) Towers of Dallas, Texas. Other nieces and nephews, Lisa McFadden, Dallas, Texas, Brandi Evans, Overland, Kansas, Dwayne (Kim) Gartrell, and Marcus (Julia) Gartrell of San Diego, California and a host of other relatives, an aunt, grand nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
