Donald Rogers affectionately known as “Lightning”, was born on March 4, 1937, in Sellers, South Carolina to the late Weldon and Evangelist Mary R. Skipper. He was preceded in death by siblings: Mary (Fred) Fisher, Sam (Ruby) Skipper, Willa Mae (Joshua) Darby; children: Janet Revron, and Donald Toney.
He received his education by attending the public schools of Florence County and graduated from Carver High School, Lake City, South Carolina.
Donald Rogers served in the United States Air Force. He worked for Esab Welding and Cutting in Florence, South Carolina of which he retired. Mr. Rogers also worked for AB Dicks Manufacturing of Lake City, South Carolina. He was a member of St. Mark Believers Holiness Church of Lake City, South Carolina.
Those who are left to cherish his memories are his wife: Bernice Rogers of the home, daughter: Michelle Irvin of Canada; sons: Tommie Singletary of Jacksonville, FL, David Needham of the home, Preston Rogers, of Florene, SC, and Donn T. Rogers (Carla) of Newberry, SC; Natasha Jones whom he thought of as a daughter; Wanda (James) Jones of Lake City, SC and Anethia Hudson of Lake City, SC; siblings: Harry (Alberta) Skipper of Lake City, SC, Dorothy (Thomas) Paulsen of New Jersey; twenty grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
