Arthur Knight

Arthur was born May 28, 1942 to the late Mildred Knight Cunningham. He was raised by the late James and Francis Knight Rush. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife Ida Mae Smith Knight, one son Kenneth Smith and eight siblings, Martha Knight, Mary Knight, Sam Junior Cunningham, Randy Cunningham, Leane Cunningham, Louise McCalister, Deloris Norman and Albert McCalister.

He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County.

At an early age, Son as he was affectionately called, accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined St. John United Methodist Church where he served actively and faithfully until his health failed. He loved being a part of the Male Chorus. His favorite song was “There’s a Lilly in the Valley” and his favorite saying was “It Don’t Matter” and when ask how he was doing his response would always be “About As Good As You Expect.”

Arthur was a Humble and Loving Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. He was a Father who never complained even being confined to his bed. Arthur was employed with Ember’s Charcoal, and Cardinal Trucking Company of 37 years. Trucking was near and dear to his heart. His second love was fixing cars and cooking barbeque. Arthur opened his home to many of his siblings and cousins when they needed a place to stay.

Arthur (Son) was called to rest on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Lexington Medical Center, Columbia, South Carolina.

He will forever be loved and cherished by his only daughter: Evangelist Althelia (Albertis) Wilson of Columbia, SC, four sons, Arthur (Gail) Knight, Jr., Emanuel (Connie) Smith and John Timothy Smith, all of Columbia, SC; Leronal Smith of Kingstree, SC., two nephews he loved as his son’s, Gary (Cynthia) Knight and Victor (Flora) Cunningham, eight sisters, Mildred Ann Cunningham, Betty Ann Cunningham, Betty Knight, Elizabeth Jackson, Mattie Mae McFadden, Irene (Bobby) Ricks, Lisa (Alex) Smith, Michelle (Kevin) Norman, one brother James Cunningham, one brother-n-law Rev. Malachi (Barbara) Smith, six grand-children, Darrius Wilson, AJ Knight, Raven Knight, Carlos Knight, Brittney (Girad) King, Chakonas Smith, three great-grand children, Charity (Cami) Smith, Braylen Brown and Ahil King, a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
